Simulation and Training

Increasing demands on the Military are resulting in prolonged deployment times and thus limiting the opportunity for soldiers to receive much needed training in order to learn new skills and refresh existing ones on a regular basis. In order to address this problem, the military is examining the effectiveness of Virtual Reality (VR) technology for use in training. VR based training systems have the advantage of being portable, deployable and reconfigurable and can thus provide effective training in the field where it's most needed. Analysis of VR based training systems suggests that in order to be effective, these training systems must fully integrate the wide range of sensory cues associated with performing complex tasks.

VRSonic's technology is both field and laboratory tested to be effective for training. Working with university, government, and commercial customers, we have integrated our spatial audio technology into numerous immersive training systems. We are currently involved in a large ONR funded project to develop next generation technology for creating training optimized Virtual Sonic Environments.

We've developed technology that is specifically designed to provide effective training by focusing on content development, ease of integration, and high fidelity presentation. Our VibeStudio product is the only true spatial auditory scene design tool of its kind. Using InterfaceLink technology enables it to easily integrate into any simulation infrastructure with no programming. Mapping simulation events to auditory cues is as easy as point and click. VibeStudio is also based on our ViBe technology, so that new simulation entities can be easily supported by simply dropping a new ViBe model into a models directory; no programming is needed. With our extensive library of ViBes, you have access to a wealth of content to populate your simulation.

Developing spatial audio content for training simulations using VibeStudio is both easy and cost effective. You simply design the static audio environment by importing geometry and populating the scene with the content you want. You then configure the dynamic audio simulation by mapping auditory behavior to simulation events using an easy to use interactive GUI.

Team Training

Team training scenarios span a wide rage of applications from VR based training systems for Close Quarters Battle for Military Operations in Urban Terrain (CQB for MOUT) to training first responders. Realistic auditory cues are critical for training to be effective in those applications.

Vehicle Simulation

Immersive vehicle simulation systems provide a team of participants with an immersive experience in a projection based Virtual Environment system. Accurate auditory cues are critical in such simulations for enhancing situational awareness and inducing stress.

Audio for vehicle simulation systems must accurately model vehicle, munitions, and environmental sounds. If modeled properly, the resulting experience can immerse trainees in a true to life Virtual Environment.

Firearms Training

Firearms training simulators enable soldiers, police and rescue personnel to practice marksmanship in highly dynamic and realistic environments. The auditory component for a firearms training simulator must accurately recreate the sonic signature of real weapons so that personnel become adept at identifying weapons by their sounds. Simulated weapons sounds should also approximate the loudness of real weapons without inducing ear damage so that personnel become accustomed to a realistic experience. Marksmanship trainers can benefit greatly by making the immersive experience as realistic as possible so that personnel are required to practice their skills in the highly stressful situations that they're likely to encounter in the field. Realistic auditory cues go along way to achieving this goal. Sound is highly emotive and can drastically transform the training experience in those simulators.
